The concept of biologic width proposed byGarguilo(1) was derived from a histologic description of the so-called dentogingival complex.(2) The measurement was established after a study of autopsy specimens, in which the average width of the dentogingival complex was established. It has been shown that the average dimension of the den-togingival complex in natural teeth is 3mm at the facial aspect and 4.5mm at the interproximal aspect.(1-4
