Rightward movement presented a long standing puzzle to grammar due to its clause-bound nature. The purpose of this paper is to provide an account of why rightward movement seems to be subject to this kind of stricter locality constraint than leftward movement. Departing from the previous analyses which take this strict locality effect to be coming from the violation of a syntactic constraint, the so called Right Roof Constraint, we claim that there is no syntactic constraint of this sort and that the seeming locality effect can be deduced from parsing strategies based on economy considerations. In the course of the discussion, we extend the applicability of this parsing account by showing that it can replac
