In this paper we present a simple, empirically grounded computational model of grounding in dia-logue. Grounding is shown to occur as a result of the dynamics of the information states of dialogue partic-ipants. A step-by-step analysis and representation of how information states develop through dialogue ut-terance processing illustrates exactly how this works.
