Abstract. This paper presents aspects regarding the design of the parallel hybrid electric vehicles. The design of the drive line starts from the estimation of the necessary power developed by the propulsion units. The necessary power is divided in two because the power can be generated by the engine and by the electric motor. It is calculated the power of the engine, of the electric motor and of the energy storage system (the batteries). There is presented the power variation of the engine for a hybrid electric vehicle for different slopes of the road.
