Anti-tumor potential of bisphosphonates

Introduction: Bisphosphonates are widely used clinically for the treatment of both malignant and benign bone disease. They bind avidly to mineralized bone where they potently inhibit osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. Whilst all compounds contain the geminal bisphosphonate moiety, they may be divided into 2 subgroups according to whether or not they possess a nitrogen-containing substituent. Recently, the molecular mechanism of action of bisphosphonates has been elucidated (reviewed in 1) an
