Domain-Specific Modeling (DSM) raises the level of abstraction beyond coding, making development faster and easier. When companies develop their own in-house DSM solution — domain-specific modeling languages and code generators — they often need to provide evidence that it gives better results than their current practice. We describe an approach applied at Polar to evaluate a DSM solution for developing embedded devices. The evaluation approach takes into account the objectives set for the creation of the DSM solution and collects data via controlled laboratory studies.
