Requirements Regarding Quality Certification of Electronic Health Records

Abstract. Quality assurance is a major task with regard to the implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Currently there are only a few approaches explicitly dealing with the quality of EHR services. The objective of this paper is to present the results of an expert survey that was conducted in 2008 including 29 experts from various European countries and different areas. The experts were questioned about requirements regarding quality certification, important areas for certification, known certifications and important sources for the establishment of a certification. The results clearly showed, that there is the need for certification and confirmed the initial assumption that additional research has to be conducted in this field
