THE VASCULAR FLORA OF OUKAÏMEDEN, IN THE MOROCCAN HIGH ATLAS Second Edition 2008

The late Professor Peter Davis, the celebrated Edinburgh botanist who had earlier collected his way around the Mediterranean, originally suggested to us that Oukaïmeden and environs needed further floristic investigation. In June of that same year, 1974, a collection was made by botanists from Reading and the Natural History Museum (or British Museum [Natural History], as it then was) on a joint Moroccan expedition. A total of 76 specimens were collected in Oukaïmeden by the four participants (C.J. Humphries [BM], I.B.K. Richardson [RNG], S.L. Jury [RNG] & †M. Mullin [BM]) on a briefer than planned visit. (After a night in the Asni camp site, the expedition was advised at the local diesel station not to take the direct dirt track to Tadmamt and Oukaïmeden, as recent rains had almost washed the road away in places, but rather to drive on to Tahanaoute and take the track from there to Tadmamt. This was done, but Tadmamt was lost in thick mist and somehow a wrong turn was taken and the expedition unintentionally returned to Asni by the dangerous flood-damaged road!)
