On July 26, 1990, President George Bush signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Title I of the Act seeks to remove barriers that prevent qualified individuals with disabilities from enjoying the same employment opportunities that are available to persons without disabilities. One method that Title I of the ADA uses to remove barriers to equal employment opportunity for the disabled is to require employers to make reasonable accommodations to job applicants or employees with disabilities. This article defines the law in this area and suggests a step-by-step process for determining appropriate reasonable accommodations
