The Randall-Sundrum model was conceived in 1999 to address the Higgs Hierarchy Problem in particle physics. It arose enormous inter-est from theoreticians and phenomenologists ever since and revealed a fruitful tool to explore the physics of extra dimensions. The aim of this paper is to provide an introductory exposition of this model. After a short survey of Kaluza-Klein theories, the setup of the RS model will be exposed and its metric derived. We will explain how an exponential hierarchy between the gravity scale and the weak scale can be natu-rally generated, and how the standard 4D gravity emerges from this model in the Newtonian limit.
