Diabetes is a relatively common ill-health condition in Iran with a prevalence of 7.7 % in the age range of 25 – 64 years and with a rather high burden. It is not only a chronic devastating disease which causes high rates of death directly, but also a strong risk factor for some other common chronic conditions, e.g., cardiovascular diseases. The worst complications of diabetes develop when quality healthcare services are not provided to patients or are not used by them.
