Abstract. The paper deals with the hydrodynamic aspects of floating units supporting multibodies compensation system. The multiple moving bodies (floats) operate through moonpools onboard a floating parent unit. A new cost-effective method based on linearized hydrodynamics is presented for the 3D hydrodynamic problem. The method solves numerically the integral equations resulting from the hydrodynamic formulation by considering not a number of moving bodies, but just one, the parent unit, and taking separately into account the effect of the floats ’ motion inside the moonpools, on the moving parent unit.
