Abstract: In January 2002, a research experiment installed a number of sensors in taxiway N1 in the northern field of the Chiang-Kai-Shek (CKS) International Airport during a scheduled slab repair. The sensors measure changes of slab behavior in response to various environmental factors and different aircraft loading. The slabs are 6 m wide, 7 m long and with 41 cm in depth. A total of 102 monitoring devices were installed. These included the H-bar and the Dowel-bar strain gauges; position gauges, temperature gauges, and moisture gauges; as well as optical fiber sensors.
