The crystal structures of natural liebenbergite{Ni1.52Coe.e5Fee6eMgo.ra)SiOa-from Bar-berton, South Africa, and of synthetic liebenbergite-{Ni ' 'uMg.6a)SiOo-synthesized at 500oC, have been studied in order to determine the intracrystalline Ni-Mg distribution. The natural liebenbergite is fully ordered, with Ml occupied only by Ni, whereas the synthetic sample is only partialy ordered with Ko: [Mg(M2)'Ni(Ml)/[Ni(M2)'Mg(Ml)] : 9.9(a), AG & :-3.5 kcafmole. Comparison with the results of Rajamani et al.
