Abstract: Ferret adrenal disease or hyperadrenalcorticism is a common disorder in ferrets, characterized by marked sex steroidogenesis and neoplasia. Control mechanisms and etiology of the disease have established initial stimulation and mechanisms of stimulation, active LH receptors in diseased adrenal tissue, and correlation with time of gonadal removal. A genetic or familial predisposition appears to exist and is currently being studied as a possible homologous genetic disorder with the Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN) syndrome in humans. Therapeutics aimed at controlling the stimulation to the adrenals, suppressing sex steroidogenesis, blocking peripheral hormonal effects, and debulking of the tissue are currently used to manage the d...
