Sweet buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) and bitter buckwheat (F. tataricum) are two buckwheat species grown in Bhutan. Traditionally, buckwheat is grown on the steeper dry lands under a system of shifting cultivation with long grass fallows. Although buckwheat is considered a minor crop, it forms one of the major components of the cropping systems
