The concern about sound insulation between flats and residences has a long lasting history. In this respect, the national Belgian regulations are considered as codes of good practice, but they do not have the real status of preliminary legal obligations. Apart from the legal situation, the existing regulations firstly have to actualized. One of the main reasons is a substantially higher demand for higher quality residences. This is related to the typical situation where older people sell their freestanding family house in order to retire in a multifamily residence.
