A P-wave velocity model of the Earth’s mantle has been obtained using a new global dataset of earthquake locations and travel times. This dataset is two times larger than the one used in previous travel time tomography studies. Most of the new travel times correspond to short epicentral distances and this has resulted in much improved seismic images of the uppermost mantle globally, and particularly in the Europe-Mediterranean region
