Two common techniques for modeling optical systems are wave-optics and ray matrices. Usually only one of these techniques is used based on the desired fidelity of the model and the desired model results. We present here a 5x5 ray matrix formalism that includes more optical effects than its smaller ray matrix predecessors. We then present a methodology to combine it with wave-optics to obtain a more complete optical model
