We report a production experiment and two perception studies examining the prosodic characteristics of constituents associ-ated with the stressed variant of the German particle auch ‘also’ in potentially ambiguous constructions. The results show that these elements are marked by perceptually relevant rising pitch accents, but that there is no 1:1 mapping between the prosodic realization and the status of being associated with auch. 1
