Abstract: A method combining optimization theory and orderly-erection analysis is introduced to calculate the suitable cable forces during cantilever construction of long span arch bridges. The cable forces are acquired by minimizing the control moment on arch ring with first order method. Corresponding programs for this analysis was generated based on the common FEM software – ANSYS. The result indicates that this method is effectively and can be spread widely
