The gonadotropin hypothesis postulates that excessive gonadotropin stimulation results in increased proliferation and subsequent malignant transformation of ovarian epithelium. The authors evaluated this hypothesis by analyzing the association between serum levels of wild-type luteinizing hormone (LH) and ovarian cancer risk.
