Students today lead very busy lives and spend too little time studying, less than is recommended for learning. Surprisingly, when the research is reviewed as to the impact of decreased study time on academic performance, the results are mixed. This study examines a wider variety of activities to which students devote their time and clusters students into two distinct profiles. Personal, situational variables and academic performance are different for each group. Results provide some explanation as to why previous study results have been mixed. Implications are also discussed
