Multimode fibre (MMF) is a suitable medium for constructing a cost-effective converged access network. Compared with single mode fibre the bandwidth of the baseband of MMF is limited. The transmission capacity of MMF can however be increased due to the existence of passbands in the higher frequency region above the-3dB baseband. Multiple subcarrier modulation may explore efficiently the passband characteristics of MMF.
