With the development of high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials, linear motor driving systems made using the HTS materials become available for practical applications. The HTS linear motor technology, especially structures and function characteristics, will be introduced in this paper. Comparison of the HTS linear motors with the conventional linear motors is also made and summarized with the potential HTS applications in the future. 1
