This paper presents estimates of wavenumbers of propagating waves in a seven-story reinforced concrete building in Van Nuys, California, using recorded response to four earthquakes. The phase velocities inferred from these wavenumbers are consistent from one earthquake to another. They are also consistent, inside the building, with independent estimates of the shear wave velocities in the building (e.g. usin
