International Student Mobility and Asian Higher Education Framework for Global Network

The purpose of this study is to clarify a possibility and its subject of Asian higher education framework which can create a global education network. The international student mobility in Asia has a new trend. Besides the Asian students ’ flow to the English speaking countries has been still increasing, new flows within Asia came to be more active among China, Korea, and Japan and ASEAN countries. Moreover, another student flow to Asia, for example Middle East and Africa to Asia have also appeared. This transition can be diagramed from the linear framework to the multi-layered framework. While this trend has been raised by the political and economic strategies of Asian countries for human resource development, it should be noted that the people’s demand for transnational higher education has also accelerated the international student mobility. This shows that the global higher education network can be created through the transnational higher education; however the international student mobility also causes cultural conflicts which interfere with each country’s autonomy on the social stability and diversity. This is a dilemma to the Asian countries which need to attract more global human resource.
