Electrical utilities are increasingly required to operate their networks more efficiently and to reduce the total real running costs of equipment. The additional requirements to meet remote global commitments such as managing emissions of greenhouse gases in conformance with various protocols make design of electrical distribution systems and the selection of equipment more complex. The widely used method in selecting the most economical distribution transformer design is simple capitalization of transformer losses. A number of Australian authorities currently use one formula for the evaluation of total operating costs for all distribution transformers under all service and loading conditions. This paper presents the analysis of that method...
