The author situates the study of "resilience " and the "resilient child " within the context of early childhood intervention programs for vulnerable young children and their families. Secondly, the concepts of vulnerability, invulnerability, risk factors and protection within the framework of an ecosystemic approach are defined. A model of classification, identifying the risk factors and the factors for protection is proposed. He then defines the model for resilience and its hypothetical construct, following current trends in research.
