Abstract: This article deals with the issue of economic sanctions and in particular, the US sanctions against Iran. The question is whether the US economic sanctions against Iran are legitimate and credible from the international point of view. The purpose is to investigate the intriguing aspect of the D’Amato Act which raises a number of questions relating to jurisdiction over disputes between the US and foreign corporations. I will try to answer that whether a justification for the exercise of US extraterritorial jurisdiction can be found in public international law and whether international law imposes limitations on a unilateral enforcement attempt by the United States.
