Objective: To determine whether the level of depressive symptoms is associated with poor glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients. Method: The sample was comprised of 83 outpatients (mean age 50.92±8.42 years). Participants were applied a structured clinical interview and the Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). Metabolic control was measured by glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels. Results: MADRS scores were not correlated with HbA1c levels (r = 0.065, p = 0.561). No relationship was found between higher levels of depression and longer duration of diabetes (r = 0.081, p = 0.468).
