The untreated As and heavy metals exposed from the mining activity is a potential source of contamination to ecosys-tem. We investigated the concentrations of As, Cu, Pb and Zn in the natural wetland in the vicinity of the Myungbong abandoned mine. In addition, the wetland was evaluated the ability to accumulate and attenuate the contaminants using the previous researches. The results show that the wetland sediment was especially heavily contaminated with arsenic but the paddy soil located under the wetland indicated the relatively low concentrations. According to the results, the wetland may play roles as a source and natural mitigator of contamination
