Abstract. Considering the effects of national culture on the process of innovation and on the establishment of research and development activities in the subsidiaries, a study of the national culture dimensions and its effect on the performance of these activities is conducted. Beginning with an analysis of the activities of research and development and the relationship with the national culture is tested using a sample of 222 subsidiaries of industrial multinational firms in five European countries. The influence of national culture is verified and a typology of national dimensions is set to reinforce certain types of innovation activities.
