Architecture reconstruction is a form of reverse en-gineering that reconstructs architectural views from an existing system. It is often necessary because a com-plete and authentic architectural description is not available. This paper puts forward the goals of architecture re-construction, revisits the technical difficulties we are facing in architecture reconstruction, and presents a summary of a literature survey about the types of ar-chitectural viewpoints addressed in reverse engineering research.
