1 POWER QUALITY AND ENERGY LOSS REDUCTION IN POWER SYSTEMS

Abstract – The need for a high quality power supply has become an essential requirement in modern power systems. Utilities compete on certain parameters in marketing their energy to users. In this respect, power quality is an important issue in formulating the strategy for competitive energy market. This paper analyses the influence of continuously increasing non-linear loads such as PC’s and other power electronic devices on the supply mains. Harmonic signals due to non-linear loads are given. Based on the results presented in the paper, the effect of the harmonic currents on energy losses and the power supply mains and their influence on power system equipments are described
