The Furuta pendulum is an very good device to analize different nonlinear control strategies. The problem is to carry the pendulum towards the upright position (swing-up) and then balancing it at this inverted position. In this paper, some nonlinear hybrid controllers that solve the problem, are proposed. The different control strategies are analyzed both by simulation and using an actual laboratory pendu-lum.
