Sexual Dysfunction Complaints in the Population of the Portuguese Network of Sentinel GPs

Background. There is little information aboute the incidence of sexual dysfunction complaints in the Portuguese Population. Objectives. This study was set up with the aim of determining the incidence rate of sexual dysfunction in the population of the Sentinel GPs, as well as to describe the patients ' complaints. Methods. The Portuguese Network of Sentinel GPs integrates both general practitioners and elements of the National Observatory of Health of the National Institute of Health. The first ones notified the cases concerning sexual dysfunction complaints which had been reported to them during the years of 1998 and 1999, while the second ones made the record and the data validation. Later the author analysed them, by making a descriptive study. A total of 273 cases (196 men and 77 women) were notified. They came from a population under observation which consists of 231,051 inhabitants (130,989 men and 144,271 women) aged 15 and above. The age of the inquired people varied from 18 to 78 years, presenting an average of 47 years and a standard deviation from 15.14 years. Results.
