There are clones of myeloid leukemic cells that can be induced to undergo terminal cell differentiation to macrophages by normal hemopoietic regulatory proteins. Indudion of differentiation in two different clones of myeloid leukemic cells with interleukin 6 (IL-6) or granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating fador (GM-CSF) resulted in indudion of mRNA for the hemopoietic regulatory proteins IL-6, GM-CSF, interleukin ia and interleukin i, tumor necrosis fador, and transforming growth fador ft.
