I. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

a. Students should be able to apply the methods and techniques of sociological research, including survey research, sampling, questionnaire construction, hypothesis testing, field observation, unstructured interviewing, participant observation, and control for bias. b. Students should be able to develop a knowledge of specific issues or problems in sociology by (1) successfully passing two in-class essay examinations, and (2) successfully completing a field work project that results in a term paper that earns a passing grade. c. Students are also assumed to be familiar with, or are expected to understand the sociological perspective, to identify and recall its terminology, and to understand the basic areas of sociological inquiry, while focusing on topics such as culture, socialization, self and society, social stratification, social class, the family, religion, community organizing, collective behavior, mass culture, and social change.
