◆ Hypertension is extremely common, affecting 75 % of women over the age of 70. ◆ Treating hypertension in women decreases the incidence of stroke and myocardial infarction. ◆ Diagnosis, treatment goals, and choice of antihypertensive agent are the same in men and non-pregnant women. ◆ Women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should never receive angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB), or nitroprusside.
