COURSE SYLLABUS COURSE DESCRIPTION

An inductive study of the various portions of the Greek New Testament to extend the student's knowledge of grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and translation skills. Prereq: BGRX 531 or equivalent. In this course we will move from the more basic level of recognizing/memorizing forms and parsing to the next level of language where meaning will be the goal, and meaning comes from the context. While discovering and knowing the various cases and verbal elements are essential, knowing how words within larger semantical units function is very important. Once we catch on, it also is easier and more meaningful. OBJECTIVES At the end of this course the student will be able to: 1. demonstrate a greater efficiency in translating the Greek New Testament because of • a larger Greek vocabulary; • a greater knowledge of Greek grammar and syntax; and • an acquired skill through translating a variety of New Testament writing styles; 2. engage the New Testament exegetically; 3. use the various tools of NT exegesis, including Bible software programs; 4. prepare better expository sermons; and 5. write exegesis papers
