THE EFFECT OF SAMPLE SIZE ON SHRINKAGE OF A NON-SCRIM REINFORCED GEOSYNTHETIC CLAY

To analyze the effects of cyclic wetting and drying on shrinkage of a non-scrim reinforced geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) panel, samples were exposed to a series of applied heating and hydration sequences in a temperature controlled room. Six samples, of varying sizes and aspect ratios, were tested to examine the influence of these properties on both the rate and magnitude of GCL shrinkage. The tests were monitored using hand measurements and a digital photogrammetry technique. RÉSUMÉ Pour analyser les effets de cycles d'hydratation et de dessication sur la rétraction de panneaux de géosynthétiques bentonitiques (GSB), des échantillons ont été soumis à une série de cycles de dessication et d'hydratation dans une enceinte climatisée. Six échantillons, de différentes tailles et proportions ont été testés pour déterminer l’influence de ces variables à la fois sur le taux et l'amplitude de rétraction des GSB.
