There are several new technological application fields of fast neutrons such as accelerator-driven incineration / transmutation of the long-lived radioactive nuclear wastes (in particular transuranium nuclides) to short-lived or stable isotopes by secondary spallation neutrons produced by high-intensity, intermediate-energy, charged-particle beams, prolonged planstary space missions, shielding for particle accelerators.
