Abstract: Output power loss due to shading effect is one of the concerns for roof mounted residential PV systems. Because of the roof design, PV modules are not always installed on a simple gable roof but also installed on a complex hipped roof. Hipped roof some-times makes a shadow on itself and this shadow will reduce the energy yield of the PV systems. Other causes of the shading are build-ings, trees or poles and transformers of the power grid especially in urban area. This research developed a method to evaluate the shad-ing effect using minutely based measured data.
