This paper reports on the start of an analysis of recent research work in tertiary education in New Zealand. As the National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence, we have been undertaking this analysis to inform the development of our own research and project funding initiatives which total over $1.6m per annum. With a mandate to work across the tertiary sector we are interested in the priorities for research from the perspective of improving educational outcomes for learners. We want to understand what constitutes high value research in terms of its potential impact on practice.
