When observers pursue a moving target with their eyes, they use predictions of future target positions in order to keep the target within the fovea. It was suggested that these predictions of smooth pursuit (SP) eye movements are computed only from the visual feedback of the target characteristics. As a consequence, if the target vanishes unexpectedly, the eye movements do not stop immediately, but they overshoot the vanishing point. We compared the spatial and temporal features of such predictive eye movements in a task with or without intentional con-trol over the target vanishing point.
