Abstract: This paper discusses the design of a Pattern Recognition System for the detection of surface defects that follow a pattern, where input is a set of surface images with defects like scratch or dent on a uniform texture background. A set of training images is classified using supervised classification algorithms based on a labeled data set and classification of the test data is done on the basis of Bayes ’ Decision Rule. 1
