Background: While the incidence of new-onset diabe-tes mellitus may be increasing in patients with schizo-phrenia treated with certain atypical antipsychotic agents, it remains unclear whether atypical agents are directly affecting glucose metabolism or simply increasing known risk factors for diabetes.
