Weale (1998) states that the suggestions of changes in lens power with decapsulation, geometric factors, lenticular shape factor and lenticular growth are all evidence for multifactorial theories of presbyopia. However, their suggestion proves neither their existence nor their role in the development of presbyopia. Glasser and Campbell (1998a) provide some of the first sub-stantial experimental evidence which can be used to test the various theories of presbyopia. We conclude that the basis of presbyopia is predominantly lenticular, but that the results do not support a predominant role of the geometric theory.
