Crime victimisation surveys have emerged over the past few decades as an important research tool to help provide a picture of crime that is independent of police statistics. The International Crime Victimisation Survey (ICVS) is an international project involving approximately 60 countries worldwide, which interviews people about their experiences and perceptions of crime and the criminal justice system. In 2004 the Australian Institute of Criminology managed the Australian component of the ICVS, and this report presents findings from that survey. Over the coming year, the AIC will be analysing the results of the ICVS in greater depth, investigating such topics as fraud and other problems experienced on the internet, and experience
